Alison Knowles' Fluxus event score Make a Salad from 1962 was performed at the Baltimore Museum of Art as a feature performance at the opening of the 2003 ‘Work Ethics’ exhibition curated by Helen Molesworth. The salad was made for several hundred spectators again at the Wexner Museum in October 2004. A Mozart duo for violin and cello was played at the beginning of the event. This was followed by production of the salad by the artist and eating of the salad by the audience. The salad is always different as Mozart remains the same. At the Wexner, all red vegetables and flowers were mixed in a huge vat with a canoe paddle. The piece was concluded as the salad was eaten by the audience accompanied by the Mozart. Make a Salad has been performed many times since then.
